Welcome
Welcome to my electronic portfolio. The purpose of this website is to display the electronic portfolio that I created during my program of study for my degree in the Masters of Education in Instructional Design and Digital Learning at Wright State University. This electronic portfolio highlights the knowledge, skills, and abilities in educational theories and technologies obtained during this degree program. So the purpose of this website is twofold: 1) to highlight what one can obtain from such a degree program, and 2) to share the knowledge obtained about educational theories and technologies with you.
About the Author
My name is Kim and I currently work at Wright State University where I teach both face-to-face and online courses. During this program, I have developed and honed many skills and abilities as an instructional course designer and have acquired vast knowledge as an instructor. The skills, abilities, and knowledge have provided a solid foundation to go forward to create innovation and high quality teaching that leads to meaningful learning.
There are many skills and abilities that have been developed as a result of this program. I will provide some examples. The first example is about video creation. I learned how to produce videos using Camtasia. I also learned how to use a green screen, add graphics to video, and edit video. I also learned how to uploaded these videos to youtube and linked into a website I created in Weebly. The second example is about online workshop creation. I developed and conducted an interactive, online workshop with a live audience using the features of a learning management system. I also learned to create presentations using the Beyond Bullet Point approach for the slides used during this workshop.
I obtained a lot of knowledge in the field of education during this program. I will provide some examples. The theories and models that were introduced focused on facilitating meaningful learning in both face-to-face and online classes. The theories and models included (but were not limited to): cognitive load theory, cognitive theory of multimedia learning, and community of inquiry.
However, the biggest accomplishment of this program was learning how to develop and build a simulation. This was something I never dreamed of learning how to do and yet I did this! It was an amazing experience that will help me with my own future course development.
Overall, I cannot emphasize how much I am taking away from this program! If you are trying to make your classes better, more innovative, and creating meaningful learning – this is the program for you!

Master of Education in Educational Technology - Instructional Design for Digital Learning
This program prepares individuals interested in becoming instructional designers or instructors who want to incorporate more innovative and high quality educational practice into their educational settings. This program combines both the practical side of online education with the research and theoretical foundations of effective design. These two approaches form two certificates IDDL 1 and IDDL 2, which are the basis for this ten course program. The program is taught in a totally online environment. Please refer to the official website for this program for more detailed information about the program and the requirements for admissions.
Below you will find the courses in this program that I completed. For each course, I have provided a summary of the content and my reflections of learning.

Reflections on Learning
This course was a real eye opener about what constitutes an effective practice to promote meaningful learning and an ineffective practice to promote rote learning. This class requires summaries of chapters from a book, the development of a website to display these summaries, and the development of videos to connect this information to your field or discipline. This was an overwhelming class since you are learning to develop a website at the same time you are doing everything else but if you can push forward the website is used in all subsequent courses. In addition, the technologies (e.g., Beyond Bullet Point, Snagit, Weebly, and Camtasia) used in this course will be used in subsequent courses as well. This is really a good foundation course for the rest of the program - you just don't realize until you finish it. It is tough but well worth it!!

Reflections on Learning
I found this approach to be very interesting. It kept you focused on the "big ideas" you wanted your students to learn and then supported achieving this. This is often the direct opposite of how courses are developed in reality. However, it really drove home the value of approaching courses in this manner. We had to use Camtasia, Beyond Bullet Point, Weebly, and Word in this course.

EDT 8130 - Making Online Courses Interactive
Content Summary
The course introduces students to the Community of Inquiry (COI) framework. This framework is a great way to make sure your online course are equivalent to face-to-face courses by examining three different variables. Further, this course examines the implementation of each of these variables in the context of online and face-to-face courses.

Reflections on Learning
I think this is one of the most important courses in this program. This course makes you conduct an online workshop with a live audience. If you are new to the online teaching environment, this course gives you the confidence to hold live session with your students. In addition, it makes you consider incorporating each of the variable of the COI framework into your session. You will use Blackboard Collaborate, Weebly, and Beyond Bullet Point during this course.

EDT 8140 - Learning Management Systems & Evaluation
Content Summary
The courses introduced students into learning management systems and how to evaluate one such system against another by using set criterion. Students will actually conduct such an evaluation using very popular learning management systems.

Reflections on Learning
I enjoyed this course because the skill of evaluation of learning management systems is very similar to the evaluation of any technological products from vendors. Therefore, these skills are very critical when dealing with various technologies in the future. Further, this course provided set factors to use in your evaluation. This is useful if you go from using one learning management system to another since the functionality is quite similar. This course required the use of Weebly and Camtasia.

Reflections on Learning
This course is very important if you teach in higher education. The field of andragogy was a new concept to me and I found this course so educational. I have incorporated many of the principles into my own courses. The course required the use of Weebly and Camtasia.

EDT 8210 - Applied Psychology Learning Theory for Digital Learning
Content Summary
This course introduces students to field of multimedia learning, or how individuals learn from the use of words and pictures. The main focus in particular was how we can use theories of multimedia learning to aid in our own instructional design to facilitate digital learning in our own courses.

Reflections on Learning
This course was very important for me because I did not realize how the creation of presentations can detract or improve learning by following basic principles. This course was very informative and was based on research findings. The course required the use of Camtasia, Word, and Weebly.

EDT 8220 - Instructional Design Concepts and Theories
Content Summary
This course introduced student to the instructional design process. The main focus in particular was how we can use the instructional design process to meet the needs of performance problems that many individuals may experience.

Reflections on Learning
We had to go step by step through the instructional design process. We performed a needs analysis, task analysis, and a learner analysis. We described how learning should be organized and delivered using objectives, goals, and teaching strategies. This was a very methodological way to develop courses. It made me consider several variables before joining into the development of the course content. This course required the use of Word, Camtasia, and Weebly.

Reflections on Learning
It was great to have a review of the quantitative methods and gain exposure into the qualitative methods. This is a helpful class to everyone, regardless if you plan to conduct research or not, as it provides a foundation to read and understand the methods used in studies. This course required the use Word, Camtasia, and Weebly.

I thought this was a great refresher course about writing a literature review for the field of education. This was a new field for me so learning the expectations and requirements was helpful for future research. This course required the use of Word and Weebly.

EDT 8250 - Digital Citizenship
Content Summary
This course introduces students to the concept of digital citizenship. This concept is very similar to the rights, duties, and responsibilities we have as citizens in society but it is applied to the technology we use personally and professionally. This also extends to the employees we oversee and work with, the students we teach and often require to use technology, and our own families and friends. These concepts were the basis for the simulation that was required to develop during this course. This course required the use of Word, Weebly, and Storyline.

Reflections on Learning
This course was tough because it required the development of a simulation. This was something that was new to me. The software was not user-friendly initially but it did have a lot if tutorials and support to guide you through it. This was an amazing experience but it does require a lot of time and effort on your part.
