Course Overview
This course examines the learning process and provides insight into the role that we, as HR Faculty, can take to increase long-term learning of our students. The material being covered is based on the book, “Make it Stick” by Peter Brown, Henry Roediger, and Mark McDaniel. The common misperceptions of learning will be discussed. From here we will lay the foundation for how the brain truly works. Next, we will journey into valuable practices that increase and enhance long-term learning. Further, the factors that create the illusions of learning will be mentioned so we can be aware of these unwanted influences. Finally, suggestions will be offered throughout the weeks for your own courses.
Requirements for Completion
To achieve success in completing this course, you will need to start with Week 1 and proceed to the next week only after the requirements for the week have been completed. The requirements for each week will include reading the chapter summaries and how these concepts connect to the field of HR. Suggestions are offered each week that provide strategies for incorporating discussed practices into your classes. Finally, you will be complete a formative assessment to gauge your understanding. You will find references are offered each week in case you desire more readings in one particular area.
