Digital rights and responsibilities is the element that is deals with freedoms we have and roles we play in a society where digital technologies are numerous (Ribble, 2015). This may include the how we use digital media, digital files, or digital print. We need to be aware of authorship or copyright when pulling resources off digital resources. Digital resources can provide a vast amount of information but it doesn't mean we treat these resources like we created them. We must give credit when credit is due. Further, we must use digital resources for the right reasons. We should not use such resources to find a paper we don't feel like writing ourselves or looking for answers to an exam we are currently taking online. Therefore, companies or institutions need to focus on how they will communicate and educate their employees on these rights and responsibilities.
Connections to Digital Citizenship Theme
In the field of Human Resource Management (HRM), the element of digital rights and responsibilities should be a consideration when developing your HRM practices. Digital rights and responsibilities stems across various HRM issues, such as employees conducting research or preparing presentations for clients or other departments. HR professionals need to communicate and educate about plagiarism and downloading resources for professional use. Further, HR professionals need to make sure that every resource produced by their own company for online distribution is copyrighted. Having established guidelines would be helpful to make it clear what is right to do and what would be considered inappropriate.
